Surviving the Heat with Cold Treats

By, Tanya Schmit

As a mother of four school-aged kids, every summer is both exciting and dreadful here in Arizona. Exciting to take a break from the busy routine of school, sports, and extra-curriculars that keep our calendars packed. But dreadful because of the obvious: THE HEAT!!

With school back in session in August, we all still have to brave the heat but we try to do so with refreshing summer treats. J

Being in a family of chefs, we have fun creating cold, refreshing summer HEALTHY treats. Here are a few that my family decided to share:

Banana Ice Cream:

Ingredients:

Ripe Bananas

Directions: mash ripe bananas in a bowl with the back of a fork.

Put in freezer for at least 8 hours.

Scoop and enjoy!

Fruit Smoothie:

Ingredients:

2 cups Frozen Fruit (any type of berries, mangoes, pineapple, etc.)

(if you only have fresh fruit, use that and add 1 cup of ice)

½ cup Milk

1 Yogurt (vanilla preferred)

½ cup Orange Juice

2 Bananas

Directions:

Put all ingredients in a blender and blend.

Summer Popsicle:

Take fruit smoothie recipe, pour into popsicle molds, and freeze. J

Hope you are able to brave the rest of this dreaded season here in Arizona!! Cheers to fun, fall times ahead!!
